I was born and raised in Vestavia Hills. I attended Vestavia Hills City Schools, competed on the VHHS track team, and spent my summers at Wald Park. As a Vestavia Rebel, I couldn’t stand Hoover or Spain Park. Now, I live in Hoover with my wife and our two girls. I’ve learned the error of my ways. When I was a rebel, I thought like a rebel; but when I became a man, I put away rebel things.
I attended the University of Alabama where I earned a degree in Film. I left Alabama to go to the University of New Orleans, where I earned a Master of Fine Arts in Poetry. I came back to Alabama and to the area where I’m from because this place is part of who I am. I wanted to tell stories about it, raise children in it, and hopefully, represent it.
In 2019, after graduate school, I enlisted in the Alabama Air National Guard1. I wanted to serve my country, I wanted to serve my state, and I wanted to do something my daughters can be proud of. I was deployed to the Middle East in 2023/2024. While I was gone, I missed my family and my city so deeply, but I’m proud to have served my country.
I work as a freelance writer, but my most difficult job is being a work-from-home dad to our two girls. One weekend a month, I put on the United States Air Force uniform and serve there. I hope to serve my city both in and out of uniform.
